More Than a Résumé

I am a Christian who holds to a Reformed Baptist understanding of Scripture and theology. I believe the Bible is the authoritative, sufficient, and trustworthy Word of God, and I seek to understand it according to its original context and intended meaning.

My theology is strongly influenced by the historic Reformed Baptist tradition, including the Five Solas and the doctrines of grace. I believe salvation is entirely a work of God’s grace, accomplished through Jesus Christ and received through faith.

My faith is not merely a private interest or a collection of theological positions. It shapes how I understand my responsibilities, relationships, work, service, and purpose.

God has consistently been faithful throughout my life. There have been seasons when I understood what He was doing and seasons when I did not. Through stability, uncertainty, abundance, hardship, success, and disappointment, God has provided what was needed as those needs were presented and as I sought Him.

I am active in my church and seek to serve wherever my gifts and experience may be useful. That includes Bible study, discipleship, teaching, technology, outreach, practical assistance, and simply being available when someone needs help.

I have been married to the love of my life, Ainsley (opens in a new tab), for more than twenty years.

Marriage has been one of the greatest gifts God has given me. Ainsley and I are different in many ways, but those differences have helped shape our life together. We have walked through celebrations, difficulties, changes, losses, unexpected turns, and more than a few adventures. Through all of it, she has remained my closest friend and favorite person.

Our home is also ruled by four very loving—and thoroughly spoiled—cats. They are part of the family, receive more attention than they probably need, and have successfully trained us to respond to their every demand. We would not have it any other way.

I have spent my entire professional career in support and service-oriented work. I have often been the person others contact when something is broken, confusing, frustrating, or simply not working the way it should.

Sometimes that means repairing a computer or solving a technical problem. Other times it means listening carefully, translating technical language into something understandable, or helping someone regain confidence when technology has made them feel overwhelmed.

People do not usually ask for support when everything is going well. They ask when they are frustrated, under pressure, facing a deadline, or worried they have made a serious mistake. Good support requires patience, honesty, reliability, and the willingness to meet people where they are.

That mindset carries into my personal life. I try to be someone my church, friends, family, coworkers, and community can turn to when they need assistance. I may not always know the answer immediately, but I will usually help look for one. I believe being dependable matters more than appearing impressive.

Technology is part of my daily work, but it is also something I genuinely enjoy. I like learning how systems work, finding new ways to use existing tools, experimenting with new platforms, and helping people get more value from the technology they already own.

I especially enjoy finding useful purposes for older equipment. A computer does not always need to be replaced simply because it can no longer run the newest version of a particular operating system. Sometimes it needs better software, a lighter operating system, a few upgraded components, or a more appropriate job.

My interests include computer support, networking, Linux, macOS, web development, accessibility, static website design, artificial intelligence, and practical technology education.

I fully embrace new technology, including AI, when it is used thoughtfully. I see AI as another tool that can help people research, create, organize, troubleshoot, communicate, and better understand complex information. The best solution is not always the newest or most expensive one. It is the solution that works.

I grew up in rural Minnesota, where much of my free time was spent outdoors. I hunted, fished, explored, wandered through the woods, played sports, and developed a lasting appreciation for nature.

Minnesota taught me to appreciate open spaces, cold mornings, changing seasons, practical skills, and the satisfaction that comes from figuring things out for yourself.

I grew up playing baseball, football, basketball, rugby, and disc golf. Age has caught up with me enough that some of those activities now sound better in memory than they would feel in practice. I still enjoy playing disc golf and traditional golf from time to time, though usually at a more reasonable pace than I once would have accepted.

Games have been part of my life for as long as I can remember. Some of my strongest early gaming memories involve playing Cribbage with my grandmother. She was ruthless, competitive, and not especially interested in allowing a child to win simply because he was a child. She believed the best way to teach me was to make me learn how to play properly. She was right.

My family introduced me to traditional card games such as Hearts, Spades, Cribbage, and many others. Those games taught me to pay attention, read the table, manage uncertainty, remember what had already been played, and accept that sometimes a good decision still produces a bad result.

My love of board games grew through my youth pastor, Brian, at Maple Plain Community Church (opens in a new tab). He regularly took the time to play Risk, Stratego, and other games with me. Those games mattered, but the time mattered more.

He showed me that playing a game with someone could be a form of ministry, encouragement, mentorship, and friendship. Sitting across a table created space for conversation and connection without making either one feel forced.

After spending years away from the hobby, I rediscovered my love of board games and began building a collection. Today I enjoy traditional card games, strategy games, historical games, trick-taking games, area-control games, and designs that create meaningful interaction between players.

God is the foundation. My faith defines my purpose and provides the standard by which everything else should be evaluated.

Geek represents the technical, creative, and analytical abilities God has allowed me to develop. It includes technology, problem-solving, web design, computers, artificial intelligence, learning, teaching, and finding better ways to accomplish useful work.

Game represents fellowship, creativity, community, and joy. Games bring people together, create shared experiences, and remind us that life includes room for laughter, imagination, and play.

My goal is to glorify God, use my geek skills faithfully, and use games to serve and connect with others.
